Glacier Point Skiing, 3/11/00
I had always wanted to ski the 11 miles out on the Glacier
Point Road from Badger Pass Ski Area. I was anticipating an off-the-couch endurance
epic, but, since the road is fully groomed for diagonal and/or skating, it is
really not so bad. In that sense the 5 am start from Berkeley, which deposited
me at the trailhead at 9 am, was somewhat excessive. On the other hand, I was
able to get to Glacier Point by noon so that I could enjoy lunch and spend some
time photographing the sights (cf. below). I even managed to make phone calls
from a pay phone submerged deep in the snow! Skiing back was uneventful and
after more Valley sightseeing I set off on the drive home, arriving in time
(ca. 8:45 pm) to have dinner with Christine.
