Phyllis and I had to scale back a planned 5 day trip to 3, and weather
forced a change of destination - the result was a 3 day trip to the
Owens River Gorge.  It was a good call - perfect weather and not too
crowded.  Staying in a real campground (Horton Creek, BLM) and visiting
the hot springs every night were an unexpected pleasure (for me).

Friday - Central Gorge:
Orange Peel, 10c warmup, PP led, JA follow.
Skeletons in the Closet (11b, downgraded in 5/92 guidebook from 11c) -
     JA led, 1 fall at crux, PP fell there following.  One move crux.
Expressway (11a, 5/92 downgrade from 11c) - PP, JA led this 5 star 
   route.  11b if you go directly to the belay from the last bolt.  This
   one was always too crowded to do before.
Hung Over (11b, many stars) - JA led with falls at bulge and just before
   belay.  Lassoed open cold shuts to work the last moves on TR.  On TR
   PP made it to the last move (she has led this one before).
George Bush (10b, many *) - PP led, JA follow.
Hard Copy (12a)  we both TRed with a 4 fall limit - PP made it about 1.5 bolts
   further.

Saturday - North Gorge:
Gorgeous (10a, 5*) - JA led, PP follow
Cmon Knucko (11b, 4*) - PP TR with a 1 or 2 falls.  Noone got this one that
   day - 11c?
Knucko's Pride (11b, 7/92 downgrade to 11a) - JA led, PP follow
Some 5.9 arete - we both led
The-aretical (11a, 4*) JA led, PP follow
Pickpocket (10d, 7/92 upgrade to 11a) - PP, JA led.  A Bachar route with
  only 6 bolts (instead of the standard 8 or 9) in 82.5 ft.  Super pockets
  and for sure 5.11 if climbed directly at last bolt.

There has been some effort to stiffen the Gorge grades - I approve.

Sunday - Adventure approach to find Clark's Canyon, involving sketching the
  shop copy of the guidebook in Mammoth, getting lost both on dirt roads and
  on the approach.  Pocket climbing ala Deadman's.  Phyllis had to take it
  easy due to PMS!  Friendly locals, beautiful setting.
10+ - JA led, 60'
11a/b - JA led, 20' of hard climbing
10b - PP, JA led, maybe 40' of climbing.

With the combination of a short day on Sunday and the time change I was home
by 9 pm.
