Pinnacles: Plague, Zippety-do-da, Between a Rock 1/28/90 Large cast of characters -- C family, Joel, Alice + Sean, Hal, Andy, + Hubert Shen. Climbed at Discovery Wall which was nice and sunny at first but cooled later. I led Plague which had a small roof and 5.7 face above (solid dark rock ); the roof seemed more like 5.10a than 5.9. Many TRed including Nancy, Hal, and Hubert. (I would need notes to make an accurate list...). Hal took Hubert up the classic Ordeal 5.8. Joel led a traverse past Dead Bird Crack to set up a TR on Zippety-Do-Dah 5.12a. This route involves some lunges between large pebbles on an overhanging prow. Joel, Andy, and Nancy had trouble with a move midway which I had to do with a static reach (I fell the first time trying to dyno it). I did this move after hanging on the rope and got the rest of it first try. Nancy led the Wet Kiss 5.9, Sean followed; then Hal led it and Hubert followed with some falls at the crux. Later, I went back to Zippety... and freed it continuously to past the last lunge and I was locking off on a "baseball"-sized knob when it blew and I flew. I started over and freed it without; it's fairly similar to the crux bulge on Cataract Corner, pulling between two knobs and lunging. Right after this, Tom Davis (who established the route), led it in an impressive display (and he took the knob back to present to his partner). Joel led Between a Rock and a Hard Place 5.10d/5.11a, 10 bolts, left of Portent, while Sean led Portent and many followed. Andy followed Between... with many flying holds and resulting hangs (this route was first done 2 weeks ago by Tom). Nancy followed with 2 falls, and I also followed (I wonder if it was easier before those holds broke?). It was getting late, but Andy and Alice bagged Swallow Crack 5.6, and I did Taking the Rap 5.10d with Joel. I think this route was rap placed and the last bolt is hard to clip (I ended up clipping one on a route next door and then grabbed the sling on the last bolt to clip the rope in). Renata did a B-1 (Bubbala-1) 6" boulder problem, and everybody pitched in on the babysitting. We're waiting to find out if Hal + Sean's wild boar hunt on Sunday was successful!
