Pinnacles: Heat Seeking, Baby Blues 1/26/91 John Imbrie (my college climbing partner and annual Valley visitor) was out for a conference so he joined the usual gang (Joel + C family) to experience what we've been sending him on email. As usual, he hadn't climbed in months but cruised the classics as if he'd been out every weekend like us California folk! Joel, John, + Nancy started out on Stupendous Man 5.10a, while I conned Bob Black into belaying me on Broken Arrow 5.10b (he was out with Hugh Pease and Randy). Bob had trouble on the crux, having only been out twice this winter; then John came over and cruised it, asking if it was 5.9 or so (I did have it rated as 5.10c/d in my guide draft). The sun had come out by this time (it had looked cool + cloudy), but we toproped Heat Seeking Moisture Missile 5.10d, which had just gone into the shade. Joel and I got it clean, while John and Nancy had trouble on the crux overhang (Nancy got well past the lip, but ran out of gas before she got established). On to POD, where John and Nancy cruised on tr (John gave it an Arches Grade 4 -- our old toproping area). Joel tred Foreplay 5.11a/b, and John tred Subterranean Tango 5.11a. Saw Ed Barry and Mark Chapman doing laps on Hot Lava Lucy 5.13a(?), and Lester from Poland (without red-haired chick this time). Lester's friend Peter tred a new route below/right of the first bolt on Monolith Direct -- Baby Blues (Post Partum Depression) 5.11d/ 5.12a. In other news, I am happy to report the resurrection of my 280Z, after 2 months rest at curbside (got it started and only missed one field goal in the Super Bowl).
