I snuck out from work last Friday to take advantage of a window of semi-decent weather and go to the Pinnacles with a visiting Wayne Burleson. Various "real world" obstacles were disposed of without too much trouble (traffic jam on the Dumbarton, Sprint calls from the unreliable payphone in the Pinnacles parking lot to my real estate agent), and we soon were searching the Monolith for dry rock. Wayne warmed up on Feed the Beast (11b) - I flailed as usual. Wayne led POD, and we TRed Foreplay to avoid a wet streak high on the route. I pulled off a hold on the final slab - glad I wasn't leading. We then worked on Hot Lava (13a), which Wayne set up bolt to bolt. He actually got a lot of the moves - I got about 1.5 of them. Seeking sun, we hiked up to the Upper Crust and we both led Relayer (10c and brief). We finished by TRing the Vigalante (12c). Wayne got all moves (including 1 medium hard and 2 really hard ones) and was intrigued - I couldn't do the "medium hard" move I was able to do last time. Dinner at the Progresso Tamale Parlor is not recommended - although it did have good local flavor. Sunday we visited the City Rock gym, which Wayne lauded as the best of the 7(!) he has visited. Random quotes and gossip. Steve Schneider (to Wayne): "Tell Tom Davis that I flashed his Pinnacles routes last time and that I plan to flash them all." Got Future Shock, 40 Days, Zippadeedooda, and Cataract (not all Davis routes, I know) back to back. Recommended "Video Pizza" for lunch - "Pretty cool, last time they were showing "Airplane." Some little unreliable guy claimed you can get silicosis (like black lung) from scrubbing lichen (watch out, Clint). Same guy claimed Owen gorge was closed due to a water main break. Joel
