Minor repairs on DNB 9/16/89 Last weekend we (Clint, Joel, Alice) didn't do much due to rain on Saturday afternoon. But we did go up on the DNB, where we added a bolt to the variation first pitch (short 5.8 face/lieback flakes) which avoids the "5.7" flaring chimney. Tom McMillan mentioned this variation to me this spring -- you scramble up to a belay ledge below Picnic and traverse left on a ledge to the bolt. After a 15' face, you join the first pitch near its belay; you can keep going and reach the second belay at the top of the pillar/buttress in 165'. We added a bolt to the belay above the mantle (2 good pins) and another bolt to the next belay (was 1 bolt and a fair pin). Then we got rained off, which foiled our main objective of adding a bolt to the next belay and 2 bolts to the first belay on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
